Thanksgiving Day seems like a good time to thank all of you for everything you have done for us since my diagnosis and through my father’s own illness and death. A short list of ways people have helped us out:
- Over 20 meals delivered to our house;
- A boatload of gift cards for ordering in;
- Many other treats dropped of at our house;
- Some critical rides to or from the hospital;
- Kind and cozy gifts for recuperation;
- Friends who travelled a significant distance to attend one of my dad’s services;
- Friends who jumped in to watch Joey’s camp performance when I needed to travel and John had COVID;
- Delightfully fun additions to the music playlist;
- Buying Joey’s Halloween costume since he was travelling when his friend group went shopping;
- When I missed a moms’ brunch because I was immunocompromised, the moms sent the food via delivery for me to join them!
- A friend who offered to put me in her cargo bike bucket so I could enjoy a ride when I wasn’t up for riding myself (unfortunately, I was out of town and couldn’t take her up on it)!
- Many work colleagues who helped fill in the gap while either of us were out;
- Friends willing to listen to me ramble and talk through these important decisions!
I listed all of this just remind us all that there are so many different ways to help out and that they are all appreciated! Feel free to steal some ideas and use them for the next friend in need.
Overall, it takes a village and you all have been one. And this is why I feel so grateful this year. While it has been a tough year, I (and all of my family) have never felt so much love!
Thank you!
